A wake-up call
On October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in the Middle East ignited a ripple effect across our community. In the days that followed, many of our neighbors—especially those from Jewish, Muslim, and Palestinian backgrounds—faced fear, blame, and harassment.
But in Central Florida, something different happened too. People looked around and said: This isn’t who we are.
Educators, faith leaders, nonprofit leaders, business leaders, students, and residents from every background began reaching out to one another. Not to argue—but to act. Together, they asked: What does it look like to build a community rooted in dignity and respect, even in the hardest moments?
A MOVEMENT EMERGES
What began as a moment of grief and outrage quickly became a turning point. Out of that moment, The Central Florida Pledge was born. What started as a shared concern quickly became a shared commitment—crafted by people from every part of the region who chose to move forward with kindness, courage, and clarity. This wasn’t just a statement. It was the start of something new: a network of people who don’t always agree but believe in showing up—for one another, for their community, and for the future of Central Florida.
Thousands Strong and Rising!
Since that first gathering, the Pledge has grown into a region-wide movement with more than 4,000 individuals and 100+ organizations signed on. They come from all political backgrounds, all walks of life. They’re united by one idea: Central Florida is stronger when we treat each other with dignity. This growing network is helping organize events, sharing resources, supporting others during challenging moments, and inspiring a culture where every person feels like they belong.
